Wearing Dress or Shorts to Doctor With Broken Leg
- #1
I broke my tibia and fibula Monday night . I'm in a full leg cast up to my hip so I wont be able to wear a suit to my interviews. Any suggestions on what I can do or wear to my remaining interviews?

Your choices are
1) Wear your suit top but gym shorts in bottom,
2) Suit top and nothing on bottom (hear this one works really well)
3) Cut off one leg of your suit pants just wear one suited leg and one casted leg. This will evoke sympathy and they will be sure to let you in.
Seriously though, sorry to hear that How'd you do it?
Just wear something neat, clean and professional, ie sportcoat and dress pants that do fit over the cast. Buy some relatively cheap dress pants and have them altered in one leg so that it fits over your cast. I'm sure adcoms will understand why you aren't in a suit.

I'd try to find some relatively cheap dress pants that match your suit top color and then do a hack job on the bad leg, and seem it up. (see how that looks)
If that looks too bad, there's nothing wrong with calling the medical schools and asking them what they would prefer you do. It shows that you're concerned about the issue and places the problem in their hands. It's a no fault solution.

you should call the schools. see if you can get a phone interview or something that will make it easier on you to travel. i mean i have never even seen anyone on crutches at an interview. if you really want to go to your interviews, then go to a tailor. he/she will know what to do.

I was thinking more along the lines of a REALLY GREAT kilt. With the white shirt/black tie thing above.
Then I'd like you to report back and let us ALL know what you wear UNDER it!!
Best of Luck. Keep that F-er elevated as much as you can... it helped mine a lot!

I kinda like the tailor idea but it's gonna be expensive..

Shorts on one side pants on the other?

Why don't you go out and buy some oversized pants and slide them over the cast?

I would cut CAREFULLY up the seam of the pant leg on the cast side (just split the stitches), then roll that pant leg up and tack it neatly. If you're handy with a needle, you can do this - otherwise find a nice pretty girl to help you with it (I assume you're male). That way when the cast comes off, you can just roll it back down and sew the leg back together. Should cost a MAXIMUM of about $20 even if you have a tailor do it for you, and this way 1) you don't trash your suit, 2) still look neat and tidy and professional, and 3) you don't have to spend too much more than you already have for this process.
As for traveling, let the airlines know ahead of time. Most airlines have employees who will help you get around and get situated on the plane (and you get to board first ), help get your luggage, etc.
Good luck - crutches suck. Get a nice looking backpack or strap for your briefcase so you can cling it across your back. Just be glad you're not female. From experience I can tell you that crutches and underwire bras just don't mix.

I always recommend this when students ask what to wear for interviews:
